As the housing crisis in Ireland continues to grow, and with homelessness at an all-time high, the Irish government has recently published the framework for “Action Plan-Rebuilding Ireland.” This 5 Pillar Plan is set to tackle the various issue surrounding why many Irish people do not have a home they can call their own. The Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government is the driving force behind this initiative and in conjunction with various other Government departments, is hoping to produce 47,000 new social houses over the course of the next six years.

The 5th Pillar of the Action Plan relates to already existing properties in Ireland and in particular derelict houses. There are tens of thousands of derelict homes scattered nationwide that are both causing an eyesore to their local community and hindering the prospects of housing those in need.

There are various reasons as to why a property may become derelict. The banks may have repossessed the property at some point if an owner could not meet their mortgage payments. Investors may also own derelict sites and are awaiting the appropriate time for when they feel to develop. There is a third scenario, however, whereby the owner of the property has passed away, and no one knows who the next of kin may be. Perhaps the owner was the last surviving member of their family, might never have married or had children, and the neighbours do not know who to contact.

We feel that given our resources, we, along with your help, can contribute towards alleviating the housing crisis by locating entitled relatives of the deceased owners of derelict properties, which in turn means they can be sold, developed and reintroduced into the market.

We provide free advice to all potential clients and can assist with the following:

  • Tidying up of grounds, decoration of property if necessary, making the property safe
  • Gathering and securing any items of value or personal effects for storage/shipping
  • Alarm, monitor and insuring the premises
  • Notify the council, police, and neighbours
  • Obtain valuations from 2-3 local auctioneers with a view to sale
  • Instruct local solicitors regarding conveyance of sale
  • See property through to point of sale and funds transferred to owner/s

We look forward to hearing from you with any properties of this nature that you may be aware of.
